The UVA Center for Appreciative Practice was created jointly by the UVA School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Medical Center, and University Physicians Group, to build a collaborative culture that is “moving as one”. Since its inception, the Center has worked with many groups across the Health System to facilitate improvements in clinical care, education, and interprofessional communication. Some examples include:
- Strategic planning for the School of Nursing
- Creating guiding principles to aid in the restructuring of the curriculum and teaching methodology for the School of Medicine
- Changing the culture and building a cohesive interdisciplinary leadership team for Health South and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- Helping clinical interprofessional work groups to enhance communication, efficiency, discharge planning and teamwork that has led to measurable improvements in patient satisfaction and employee morale
