Julie Barnes works as a facilitator, consultant, personal counsellor/supervisor and 1:1 developer using person centred and whole person principles, and Appreciative Inquiry. Freelance since 2002, she works with individuals and organisations, enhancing leadership, learning and potential through collaborative, strengths-based approaches to managing change. She encourages people to work in the ways that best suit them, being creative and innovative, within a supportive and accepting environment.
Education and Professional Experience:
Graduating in social sciences, she has worked in health and social care research, locally and nationally, in inspection, policy and service improvement; and has been developing her private consultancy and counselling practice since 1999, working with individuals, universities and government agencies. She is a trained appreciative inquiry practitioner, using this approach with individuals, teams and in whole system summits eg in large scale strategic planning (dementia services); writing about its application in supervision and running the UK AI network for several years; and offering training in AI Essentials and AI Coaching in the UK and USA for LWS and NTL. She is also a trained counsellor and supervisor and independent civil celebrant, helping families create meaningful funeral and wedding ceremonies. She is currently learning to lead community singing groups for people with dementia and their supporters.
Areas of Interest:
Unlocking the human spirit and supporting people to create and co-create the futures and lives they want to live. My focus now is on individual development, leadership and hosting challenging conversations about life, death and what matters most to us as people.
