An Appreciative Inquiry Summit was held in two parts at Shaunavon Hospital Care Centre (SHCC) in March/April 2011 to strengthen the culture of teamwork, cooperation and shared ownership in providing excellent health care at SHCC. Part one consisted of gathering representatives from every department to engage in Discovery and Dream conversations about their ideal work environment. Part two took place three weeks later, during which staff representatives created provocative propositions (possibility statements) about their desired future. These possibility statements described what the SHCC healthcare environment would look and feel like when all themes are at their best. Our possibility statement has been brought to life over the past 1 ½ years through many individual and group actions. Recently, an evaluation was conducted to address two questions, “How do we sustain this change energy after generating and acting on provocative propositions of the desired future?” and “How do we evaluate our success?” A mini summit was held and staff came together again to share stories about success moments of the past 1 ½ years to generate renewed energy and innovations for teambuilding. Several new department representatives were invited and so the circle of stories and learning was expanded, and new improvisations were possible. What was found was this: the best way to build on and sustain the energy generated by AI processes is with more AI.
