'If you think positively, time will lead you in to the same direction'.
After my AI training in 1997, I was selected as an Economic and Organizational Development Officer (EODO) in Netherlands Development Organization, Nepal .I was assigned in Humla remote and isolated but naturally/culturally reach district in Nepal. At the same time SNV/ and the TMI was designing a tool called APPA (Appreciative Participatory Planning and Action). This tools was designed for tourism related opportunity in community level and develop participatory action plan for rural tourism development. All the contents and process was adopted on AI process. Before developing this tool I tested this approach with carious community based and local NGOs in Humla District.
During 2000, we started to facilitate this tools (APPA) for Local partners NGOs and Local; community through NGOs staffs. On August 2000,we introduced this tool in Kermi village, Khagalgoun Village Development Committee of Humla District. The duration of the process/Training was 6 days. During the whole process /exercises, the community members (both man/women) of Kermi Village participated. During the process all the 4D cycle was used to appreciate their tourism assets and further to visualized their dream. The community also designed the appropriate action plan to deliver effectively in future. At the end of the day the participated community has taken sanitation campaign as immediate action (started an collective action to improve their sanitation situation of their community)
Formation of Community Group
Micro Hydro Installation projects
Community Campsite management
Toilet Constructions
Formations of CFUG
Hot water spring management
After knowing the powerful approach of AI, I started advocating these tools at various levels. On support of Buddhi Tamang( One of the AI practitioner in Nepal), We facilitated one day AI orientation workshop for all the political parties representatives, District Authorities and NGOs representatives at Humla and created a forum called “Imagine Humla”.
I continued to apply the AI approach at various event recently We have conducted a gender Awareness training through AI approach and it was so successful event and it has created lot of positive impact on gender participation at Taplejung District Nepal.
