Dr. James Davy is the Distinguished Practitioner in Residence in the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University–Newark where he is also the director of the Center for Applied Appreciative Inquiry (CAAI).

At Rutgers, Dr. Davy teaches Ethics in the Public Service, Managing Public Organizations, Leadership and Diversity, Public Policy, Strategic Planning, and Strategic Management

He spent 30 years in local and state government as a city manager of towns in New Jersey, senior advisor to the governor, and Commissioner of the NJ Department of Human Services.

As Director of the Center for Applied Appreciative Inquiry at Rutgers, Dr. Davy specializes in strength-based collaboration and group process facilitation assisting public and nonprofit organizations in strategic planning, team building, leadership development, organizational design, service delivery and implementation planning, and internal/external stakeholder and community engagement.

Education and Professional Experience:

Ph.D. Urban Systems - Education from Rutgers University; Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University; BA from Thiel College, Greenville, Pa.
